Not sure how to propose? Here's everything you need to know!

The fact you looked up this article means a very exciting moment in your life is headed your way - you are planning to propose to your loved one! Now that you have decided that a proposal is in your future, there are a few things you should consider. If you are totally overwhelmed by how you want to pop the question, reach out to your local Proposal Photographer or Proposal Planner! they will help guide you along the way.

What does your partner enjoy?

This might seem redundant, but try scheduling a few things that your partner likes to do! This could be a hike to a new mountaintop, a trip to get ice cream and sit by the lake, a tour of the Biltmore estate, a picnic at your favorite spot (check out Asheville Picnic for some super cute baskets), dinner at a fancy restaurant, or a candlelit couples massage (Asheville Massage and Wellness is a great spot for that). This way your loved one will have a whole day full of amazing romantic, and thoughtful memories attached to the day you asked them to spend the rest of their life with you.

Do you want the moment captured?

In this day of age, technology has spoiled us so well that we have photos of everything! We are so excited and eager to share photos with our friends and family, and to be able to look back on when we are old and wrinkly. This moment is something you only get to experience once, and a fun memory to be able to reflect on one day with your grandchildren. If you think your partner would love to have that moment captured by a professional, do it! We provide lots of planning and guidance with our proposal sessions, so it can go as smoothly as possible. We know this can be a nerve wracking moment, but we are here for you every step of the way.

Are they going to say yes?

Surprise proposals are often times a lot of fun! The only suggestion we have is to make sure that both of you are at least a little bit on the same page. They don’t have to know the when, where, or how, but definitely discuss getting engaged at some point before catching them completely off guard. Even if it’s a year before you actually pop the question. Especially if you are going to hire a photographer to capture your proposal, you don't want any awkward silence (eeeek!).

Do you want your friends or family there?

We have photographed some epic proposals where not only was the engagement a surprise, but their friends and family was too! This is a fun way to also make the moment even more special, with all the people you love most. This will take a bit more coordination, but the results are amazing. Talk with your photographer to come up with the best plan of action to hide those special people until just the right moment.

Okay I am ready to go, now what?

Great, all of the planning is done and you are ready to pop the question! Now what? Here are a few tips we have for the day of your proposal.

  • Don’t be weird! Your partner knows you better than anyone, try to remain cool as a cucumber.

  • Get off your phone. We get it. Blood is pumping, you’re as nervous as ever. Texting your friends/family/photographer nonstop because of your worrying is only going to take away from the beautiful day you two are spending together. Put the phone down and enjoy your love.

  • X marks the spot. If you have coordinated a perfect location to have photos taken of your proposal, touch base with your photographer of what the most “picture perfect” spot is and have a marker for it.

  • Stand sideways to your photographer. This might not be something you have thought of before, but its a crucial step. Make sure you and your partner are standing sideways to your photographer so they can see both of your faces. Last thing anyone wants after going through all of this planning is to get photos of the back of your heads!

Okay, you are all set! Go out, have a great time, and soak in the last day of just dating. You have got this!
