What to Consider When Planning Your Proposal

When planning your proposal at the Biltmore Estate, there are a few things to consider to ensure that your special moment is unforgettable:

  1. Timing - When planning your proposal, consider the timing. The Biltmore Estate is a popular destination, so it's important to plan your proposal at a time when it won't be too busy. Consider visiting during off-peak times to ensure that you have the best possible experience. We recommend around the first hour they are open, or the last hour they are open for the day, as most people visit from 10-4pm.

  2. Season - The Biltmore Estate is beautiful year-round, but each season offers its own unique beauty. Consider the time of year and the weather when planning your proposal to ensure that you have the best possible experience. If you are looking for beautiful spring flowers, April and May is a gorgeous time for the walled garden to be in bloom. There is a sunflower field open near the deer park village in August/September. They put the giant Christmas tree up and start preparing for the holidays on November 1st through early January.

  3. Budget - The Biltmore Estate is a high-end destination, so it's important to consider your budget when planning your proposal. Be sure to factor in all costs, including admission fees, food, and transportation. We have annual passes so we don’t push the price of admission onto our couples, but that might not be the case for every photographer. Ask them if their session cost includes their admission fees or not.

  4. Permits - Permits are not required to propose or to take engagement photos on the premises, but if you are in wedding attire, even if you aren’t actually getting married that day, obtaining a permit is necessary for that.

Tips for a Magical Proposal

  1. Personalize it - Make your proposal special and unique by personalizing it to you and your partner. Consider incorporating your favorite things, like flowers or music, into your proposal. Or choose the perfect place to get dinner and dessert afterwards. The possibilities are endless! Our favorite restaurants nearby are Ichiban if you’re vibing with the idea of a hibachi steakhouse, or The Red Stag at the first floor of the Grand Bohemian for a nice steakhouse experience. Crave Dessert Bar is one of the absolute best places for a unique dessert experience with a romantic atmosphere.

  2. Get a photographer - Hiring a professional photographer to capture the moment is a great way to ensure that your proposal is captured forever. I look at our engagement photos all the time from when Brad proposed in Ireland, and it was such an emotional and beautiful way to share that experience with our family members that were not physically present with us. Look for a photographer who specializes in engagement and proposal photography to ensure that you get the best possible results.

  3. Plan a surprise - Surprise is a key component of a memorable proposal, so consider planning a surprise for your partner. Whether it's a romantic picnic or a hot air balloon ride, a surprise will make your proposal even more special and unforgettable.

  4. Take time to relax - Planning a proposal can be stressful, so be sure to take time to relax and enjoy the experience. Take a walk through the Estate, have a picnic, or enjoy a glass of wine together.

Proposing at the Biltmore Estate is a dream come true for couples seeking a romantic and unforgettable experience. By choosing the perfect location, planning the logistics, personalizing your proposal, and sealing the moment with love and celebration, you can create a timeless moment that will be cherished for a lifetime. So whether you're planning a grand gesture or a quiet, intimate moment, let the beauty and romance of the Biltmore Estate set the stage for the beginning of your happily ever after.
